Couples Therapy

No relationship travels in a straight line. Over time, routines, life's challenges and individual wounds can turn closeness into silence, distance or constant arguments. At Clínica Bem Me Quero, couples therapy offers a neutral, safe and strictly confidential space, designed so that both of you can sit at the same table and be truly heard.

Here, the therapist's role is not to judge, assign blame or take sides. Our focus is the relationship. We work as facilitators to help translate what the other is trying to say, to dismantle destructive communication patterns and to look at each person's needs within the shared space. Whether the goal is to rediscover connection, overcome a crisis, or even understand whether the path together still makes sense, we do so with the utmost respect for your story.

We support couples through challenges such as:

  • Communication crises (feeling you no longer speak the same language, or that everything turns into an argument)
  • Emotional distance and loss of intimacy or closeness
  • Overcoming breaches of trust (such as infidelity)
  • Adapting to major life changes (becoming parents, family bereavement, professional challenges)
  • Repetitive conflict patterns that wear you down
  • Conscious, healthy separation or divorce processes

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my relationship needs couples therapy?

Couples therapy is helpful whenever you feel your relationship has entered a cycle of wear and tear that you can no longer resolve on your own. If conversations always turn into arguments, if silence and indifference have taken hold, if there has been a serious breach of trust, or if you feel you have become mere 'housemates', therapy offers the tools needed to mediate the dialogue before the distance becomes permanent.

What if my partner doesn't want to come to the sessions?

This is a very common scenario. Ideally, both partners are motivated for the process, but if your partner shows initial resistance, you can suggest coming to a first session, with no commitment, to see how it works and demystify the space. If the refusal still persists, you can begin an individual therapeutic process. Caring for yourself and understanding your own patterns in the relationship will always bring meaningful changes to the couple's dynamic.

Will the therapist decide who is right, or whether we should separate?

No, not at all. The couples therapist is a completely impartial professional, and their 'patient' is the relationship, not each individual separately. The goal is not to prove anyone right, but to help the couple understand the root of the conflicts. The decision to stay together or move towards separation will always rest solely with the two of you; the therapist will support whichever path you choose, ensuring the process is carried out with the greatest possible emotional health.

Is online couples therapy effective? How does it work with two people on the same screen?

Yes, it is exactly as effective as the in-person format. For the online consultation, it is ideal for the couple to be in the same physical space, in a private and quiet place where they can talk openly without interruptions. This format brings great flexibility of scheduling, making it easier to fit around both partners' routines without the need to travel. In specific cases (such as long-distance relationships), sessions can also be held with each partner connecting from a different location, with no problem at all.

Do you have agreements with any insurer or health subsystem?

We don't have direct agreements with insurers or health entities. However, fortunately the vast majority of insurers and health subsystems already reimburse a significant percentage of the cost of private sessions. We suggest you check the specific conditions and coverage with your insurer. If reimbursement doesn't apply in your case, all our invoices are issued with your tax number, so they are automatically included in your IRS tax return as health expenses, where you are entitled to the corresponding deduction.
