Psychology Consultation (Adults)
A psychology consultation at Clínica Bem Me Quero is far more than a space to talk. It is a safe place, free of judgement and strictly confidential, designed so that you can look at, care for and welcome every part of yourself — even those you are afraid to say out loud.
Through an integrative approach, we don't try to fit your story into a pre-defined mould. We adapt the techniques and therapeutic models to your individuality, your pace and your unique needs, walking side by side with you through your process of self-discovery.
We support adults across areas such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relational difficulties, grief, trauma and much more. Children and adolescents have a dedicated Child and Adolescent Psychology consultation.
Our consultations take place in person, at our clinics in Lisbon and Porto, or online, with complete convenience and security, wherever you are.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if I need a psychology consultation?
You don't need to be 'in crisis' or at breaking point to seek support. More and more, people come to therapy not for a strict or clearly defined clinical reason, but out of a genuine wish to have a safe space, with someone impartial, to let out what they carry inside. A psychology consultation is helpful whenever you feel your emotions are hard to manage on your own, when you feel lost from yourself, or simply when you want to invest in your self-knowledge. If it hurts, if it weighs on you, or if it just needs to be said out loud, it deserves to be heard.
How does the first session work?
The first session is a moment of getting closer and getting to know one another. It is a space to share what brings you to therapy, your main concerns and what you would like to achieve. The psychologist will gather some information about your life history and explain how you will work together. There is no rush and no pressure: you always set your own pace.
How long is each session and how often should I come?
Each individual session lasts approximately 50 minutes. At the start of the process, the ideal frequency is usually weekly or fortnightly, so that we can build a secure foundation and give continuity to the therapeutic work. As you begin to feel more secure and better equipped, the spacing between sessions is adjusted by mutual agreement.
Are online sessions as effective as in-person ones?
Yes, absolutely. Scientific evidence shows that online psychotherapy is just as effective as in-person therapy. The secret lies in the quality of the therapeutic relationship that is built. The online format offers great flexibility of scheduling, avoids travel and lets you be in the comfort and privacy of your own home, while maintaining full ethical rigour and complete confidentiality.
What if I don't connect with the psychologist in the first few sessions?
The relationship and empathy between client and therapist are the most important ingredient for successful therapy. At Bem Me Quero, we deeply value how safe you feel. If for any reason you feel there is no 'chemistry' or that the approach isn't the right one for you, you can talk to us with complete openness. As a team of different professionals, we help you find the psychologist who best fits what you are looking for.
What if I don't really know what to say or where to start?
That's not a problem at all. It is perfectly normal to feel some nervousness or to be unable to organise your thoughts right away. The psychologist's role is precisely to help you find that thread. You don't need to bring a prepared speech; you can start with whatever you remember or with whatever you are feeling in that exact moment. The space is yours, and so is the pace!
Do you offer reduced fees for people facing financial hardship?
Yes. At Bem Me Quero, we believe that caring for your mental health should be a right, not a privilege. That's why we have a Social Responsibility Fund. Through it, we offer online sessions at a reduced fee, aimed specifically at non-working students and unemployed people, upon presentation of proof. Places are limited by the team's availability, so we suggest you contact us to find out more.
Do you have agreements with any insurer or health subsystem?
We don't have direct agreements with insurers or health entities. However, fortunately the vast majority of insurers and health subsystems already reimburse a significant percentage of the cost of private psychology sessions. We suggest you check the specific conditions and coverage with your insurer. If reimbursement doesn't apply in your case, all our invoices are issued with your tax number, so they are automatically included in your IRS tax return as health expenses, where you are entitled to the corresponding deduction.
Can I choose which psychologist on the team I'd like to see?
Yes, absolutely. If, while browsing our website, you feel a particular connection with one of our psychologists, you can and should indicate your preference when booking. If you don't have a specific preference, we carry out an initial screening of your request to direct you to the team member who best fits your reason for the consultation and your scheduling availability.
